Who is InMage?
InMage Systems was founded in 2002 by Brocade Systems’ founder Kumar Malavalli. As the visionary that helped usher in the era of networked storage, Malavalli understood that the older approaches to data protection would not be as scalable or efficient with storage area networks (SANs). In 2004 Malavalli and his team were joined by Rajeev Atluri, formerly of Gadzoox Networks. Atluri is another storage visionary and strong proponent of the value that SANs would bring to commercial computing.
InMage’s executive team is headed by John Ferraro who took over as Chief Executive Officer and President in 2006. The executive team is composed of a number of individuals with strong storage industry experience. Company DNA includes experience from key storage industry players over the last 20 years, including Brocade, Computer Associates, Dell, EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, IBM, Legato Networks, Seagate Software, Sun Microsystems, Tandem Computers, and Veritas Software (now Symantec) as well as a variety of industry startups of note over the last decade, including ConvergeNet, Diligent Technologies, Rhapsody Networks, Sistina Software, and Topio.
InMage developed a unique architecture that combined very low server overhead with a scalable model that could be flexibly deployed to address a variety of data recovery requirements as well as application availability requirements. InMage’s unique “hybrid recovery architecture” was equally applicable to local and remote recovery problems, and was the industry’s first disk-based recovery solution that could be used to simultaneously address backup, disaster recovery, and application high availability requirements in a single platform. InMage’s solutions combined continuous data protection, asynchronous IP-based replication, application failover/failback, and wide area network optimization in a single platform that utilized disk as the recovery media.
InMage focuses on solving data andapplication recovery problems for mid tier and larger enterprises. Many InMage customers use the solutions to address both backup and disaster recovery requirements, solving problems associated with backup windows and addressing increasingly stringent recovery point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO) requirements while simultaneously minimizing or eliminating tape-based infrastructure. Business problems solved by InMage include meeting service level agreements, minimizing data loss on recovery, implementing cost-effective disaster recovery plans, and making the information technology infrastructure highly available – all while minimizing the impact of data and application protection on production operations. InMage’s software-based solutions cover a wide range of heterogeneous environments, including Windows, Linux, and Unix servers, physical and/or virtual servers (including VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft), and a wide range of storage architectures (SAN, DAS, and NAS).
